Powering global ambition through agile payments technology

When a fast-scaling fintech set its sights on rapid European expansion, they needed a partner with global expertise, the right technology, and the agility to help them move at pace.

Tribe not only delivered an impressive speed to market but also empowered the fintech with the tools and insight to support long-term growth – giving them full control over an exciting global future in payments.

The Challenge

Already an established acquirer in the Chinese market, this fintech was expanding into the UK and EU to work with luxury brands – primarily in a bid to support their Chinese mobile payments offering. But their ambitions stretched further: they aimed to offer global merchants more innovative, efficient, and personalised one-stop payment solutions.

The first step was to broaden their payment services to include popular card payment methods such as Visa and Mastercard, alongside additional local payment methods. Having obtained an EMI licence in the UK, it was important for the fintech to launch quickly and cost-effectively.

Although they considered the cost and resources involved in building their own tech stack to support this expansion, they evaluated this against Tribe’s ready-to-go solution – and found it offered a faster, smarter route.

Tribe's Solution

Tribe’s agile approach, enabled by our flexible, modular, cloud-based platform, was a key factor in their decision. This would allow the fintech to support various payment types across multiple payment channels with one simple integration, while also maintaining full control of future expansion plans for their acquiring solution.

Proven agility – Tribe’s state-of-the-art technology and nimble approach supported the fintech’s aspirations to grow as an acquirer and payment services provider in the UK and across the EU, with payments capabilities that were cost-effective, scalable and secure.

A trusted relationship – Tribe’s responsive and open communication helped forge a strong initial relationship which was key to the fintech’s ambition to lock in a long-term processing partner they could trust to support their business growth.

Industry-leading expertise – Tribe’s extensive industry knowledge and expertise in the Open Banking and alternative payments space was vital in helping this fintech plan ahead and develop offerings across the full transaction flow.

"Implementation was really fast. It was only two months from contract signing to going live – and this was largely down to Tribe getting the ball rolling at an early stage. From a practical perspective, we were impressed by their project management system; all the various phases and tasks were very well structured and documented for all parties to see; and communication channels were clear and established. Cost and time were obviously important factors; but we were especially impressed with the team at Tribe on a personal level. They were enthusiastic and communicative, and we gelled immediately."
